Detroit Strip Clubs: Riddle may face extortion charges
July 15, 2009 at 4:12 am | In Detroit strip clubs | No CommentsOne allegation relates to the scandal over bribes paid to approve a $1.2 billion sewage sludge contract the Detroit City Council awarded to Synagro Technologies Inc. in 2007, with Conyers changing her position to cast the deciding vote.
The plea agreement signed by former Synagro official James R. Rosendall Jr. refers to Riddle as “Aide to Council Member A.” It claims Riddle offered Rosendall an ultimatum: Hire him as a consultant and the City Council would approve a deal for a recycling facility in which Rosendall had an interest. If Riddle wasn’t hired, the deal wouldn’t go through, according to court papers.
Riddle wasn’t hired, but the deal went through.
Owners of the Zoo Bar in Greektown have told the grand jury that in 2006 Riddle sought $25,000 to obtain the vote of Conyers to approve the transfer of the strip club’s operating permit from one owner to another, according to records filed in a federal civil lawsuit.
