Detroit Strip Clubs: Riddle trial turns to Synagro

Riddle, 63, is charged in a seven-count indictment with charges that include conspiracy, extortion and making false statement to the FBI. Today is the fourth day of evidence in his trial.
The charges stem from Riddle’s time as a top aide to former Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers, who pleaded guilty to bribery in June and awaits sentencing on March 10.
Conyers cast the deciding vote when the Detroit City Council awarded a $1.2 billion contract for sewage sludge trucking and disposal to Synagro Technologies Inc. of Texas in 2007.
On the Synagro deal, Riddle is charged with assisting extortion by funneling a bribe to Conyers.
The trial in front of a jury and U.S. District Avern Cohn has already heard testimony from officials of a technology company and a strip club who say Riddle shook them down.
