DETROIT (AP) – Popular pastor and gospel singer Marvin Winans has been assaulted and carjacked at a Detroit gas station.
Winans tells WXYZ-TV that he was pumping gas when four or five young men jumped him Wednesday afternoon.
His sport utility vehicle was taken. Winans says he wasn’t seriously injured and says “this kind of nonsense just has to stop.”
Winans is pastor of the 4,500-member Perfecting Church on Detroit’s east side. He gave singer Whitney Houston’s eulogy in February.
He also has been very active in civic issues, including the stand against the proliferation of strip clubs in Detroit.

Joseph Robert went to Leopard’s Lounge strip club for some fun with friends, but the evening ended with him getting into a fight with a 30-year-old man armed with a knife, according to court testimony Wednesday.
Darryl Byrd is on trial facing an attempted murder charge. He’s accused of stabbing Robert seven times during an altercation on April 28, 2010.
Who started the fight is not clear. So far, there’s been conflicting testimony about the incident.
Differing versions of the incident alternatively describe 28-year-old Robert struggling alone with Byrd — or Robert, his cousin and possibly a third man in a “very violent group hug” with Byrd, according to the testimony of Kyle Parry, the most sober of the four associates at the club.

Two hours earlier, the officer responded to a domestic violence call at La Quinta Inn, 12888 Reeck Road, between the woman, who allegedly was drunk and slurring her words, and her husband. Hotel employees called police after numerous disturbances involving the couple.
Detroit Adult Entertainment: Mich. prostitute cleared of life felony for supplying heroin to customer gets …
May 12, 2012 at 10:38 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsPONTIAC, Mich. — A prostitute who once faced up to life in prison for supplying heroin to a customer who died has been sentenced to 14 months served.
She pleaded guilty to a lesser charge after her lawyer persuaded authorities the man’s enlarged heart, clogged artery and cold shower after a 30-minute dip in a hot tub contributed to his death. The man died during a sex act with her after taking the drug.
An Oakland County judge sentenced Natasha Vanwasshenova (vahn-wah-sheh-NOH’-vah) Tuesday for delivering a controlled substance. The 28-year-old also received two years’ probation.
Authorities say a 38-year-old man hired her in November 2010 to come to his home in Rochester in suburban Detroit. At his request, she bought $80 of heroin for him.
She apologized to the man’s family in court.

May 12, 2012 at 10:38 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsU.S. Army attorney Wendy Saigh of Grosse Pointe Woods shared that she was going to promote the “Best Friends Are Books” foundation, if her name was chosen. The book organization provides books to needy children and their young mothers. Founded in Grosse Pointe, the group works with organizations throughout metro Detroit. “Hopefully, my name will be drawn,” said Saigh. “And yes, it’s tempting to shop for cars while we’re here,” she laughed. “I had no idea Matick was this big.”
And the First Drum Roll, Please …
The three women and charities selected from the dozens of nominees were: Alternatives for Girls, submitted by Janet McAuliffe of Beverly Hills; Generation of Promise, submitted by Claudia Malone, a Birmingham resident who’s on the Board of Education for the Birmingham School District; and City Mission, submitted by Gail Haffey of Beverly Hills.
McAuliffe spent her five minutes talking about Alternatives for Girls, a Detroit-based prevention, shelter, mentoring and outreach program for girls. It was launched in 1985 when a group of southwest Detroit residents, clergy and business people began to share concerns about the alarming increase in drug use, homelessness, prostitution and street activity among girls and young women.

May 11, 2012 3:50 PM
Deadline Detroit writer Sandra Svoboda was taken aback after her husband was solicited by a prostitute in their suburban driveway. Are there different expectations of community standards in Detroit versus the suburbs? How would you feel if a hooker was looking for action at your home?
While driving to their Grosse Pointe home one evening, Svoboda’s husband was followed by a hooker who had been hanging out in a nearby party store parking lot. As he got out of his car, she asked him if he had any change. She then asked him if he lived in the house. He knew what she really wanted and Sandra, inside the house, called the police.
Do people who live in the burbs have a right to tell Detroiters to keep their Detroit crime in Detroit? Svoboda believed that when they bought their house, they chose an area that was separated from Detroit crime, trash and even vomit. She joined Charlie to discuss these issues. Why are the neighbo …

Detroit Adult Entertainment: Morals, morals, who’s got the morals?
May 12, 2012 at 10:37 pm | In Detroit adult entertainment | No CommentsWritten more than a decade ago but reminiscent of today’s Occupiers, “The Altruists” unfolds in three bedrooms scattered across New York City. It’s Sunday, and yet another protest is on the agenda – although no one is quite sure what the subject-du-jour might be. Although each member of this motley bunch is dedicated and fully committed to a seemingly endless list of leftist causes – and will eagerly raise a picket sign or toss a fire bomb to show their solidarity with them – their moral centers are, shall we say, a bit squishy.
Ringleader Ronald (Cal M. Schwartz) is a gay social worker who falls instantly in love with whatever “fix-em-upper” comes into his life. Today it’s a drug-fueled, mostly monosyllabic male prostitute, Lance (Richard Payton), who he picked up the night before. (He’s already making their wedding plans.) His co-conspirators are the hunky, self-centered Ethan (Jonathan Davidson), who – despite his live-in arrangements with Ronald’s sister, Sydney (Alysia Kolascz) – finds himself bedding many of the movement’s female participants, including Cybil (Jill Dion), a not-very-committed lesbian in a rocky relationship with the much-feared (but never seen) Audrey.

PONTIAC, Mich., May 8 (UPI) –
A Detroit-area prostitute was sentenced to time served Tuesday for supplying a client who later died of a heart attack with heroin.
Natasha Vanwasshenova, 28, of Lincoln Park appeared in an Oakland County courtroom in shackles for the hearing, the Detroit Free Press reported. She apologized to the family of the man, 38, and to her own family for her actions.

The cause of death was determined to be a drug overdose after an initial autopsy, and the prostitute could have received a life sentence for supplying drugs that caused death. The medical examiner took another look at the case after a defense cardiologist said the man died of a heart attack and changed the cause of death.
